Strategic Philanthropy

As a solicitor and TEP, I advise philanthropists, family offices and foundations on giving structured to last — governed and accountable, so its aims are met, not simply money given.

Overview

Ad hoc giving meets an immediate need; strategic philanthropy is giving built to last — governed, structured and durable across time and generations.

Giving at scale raises many of the same questions as running a business or managing a trust: how it should be structured, who is accountable, and how it holds up as circumstances and generations change. Treating philanthropy as an afterthought to wealth planning tends to produce structures that are difficult to govern and slow to adapt.

I advise on the legal structuring and governance of charitable giving, drawing on the same cross-border, family office and trust experience that underpins the rest of my practice — so a philanthropic vehicle sits alongside a family's wider affairs, rather than apart from them.

My advice is underpinned not only by my experience, but by an MSc in Law and Private Wealth Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Wealth Management, CLT/STEP International Diplomas in Trust Creation Law and Practice and Trust Administration and Accounts, and an Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes.

Who do I advise?

  • Individuals and families setting up a charitable trust or foundation
  • Family offices building or reviewing a philanthropic strategy
  • Trustees and directors of existing charitable structures
  • Donors making significant gifts across more than one jurisdiction
